Position Title Safety Technician (Chem)
Position Summary:

The Safety Technician reports to the Chemical Hygiene Officer (CHO) of EH&S (Environmental Health & Safety) and performs varied technical and clerical tasks in support of the department, specifically related to chemical inventories, chemical storage, fume hood certification, and supplies and equipment maintenance following internal procedures and external safety regulations.


  • Performs chemical inventories within laboratories and ensures proper handling and storage.
  • Utilizes barcode reader to scan containers for accurate inventory tracking.
  • Performs data entry to electronic database of chemical inventory and hazardous classification information.
  • Create new reports or generates required routine regulatory and departmental reports from the database.
  • Certifies laboratory chemical fume hoods monthly.
  • Provides basic chemical inventory guidance to access data to lab personnel.
  • Responds to product inquiries from the labs as needed.
  • Prepares ethanol containers as ordered by the laboratory.
  • Washes, sterilizes and disinfects laboratory glassware. Retrieves and/or delivers glassware from/to the appropriate laboratories
  • Maintains and files appropriate records for the departmental operations.
  • Performs other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as required or assigned.

M-F 7:30-am-4:00pm

Physical Requirements:

This position works in other than a typical office environment which may include offices, laboratories, and vivariums. Further details of the physical requirements of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process.

Basic Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • 1 year of environmental health and safety or laboratory experience preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with basic scientific terminology.
Preferred Qualifications:
Compensation: $19.58 - $24.45 hourly hiring range
