Position Title Staff Scientist with Specialization in Cryo EM
Position Summary:

The Staff Scientist with specialization in Cryro-Electron Microscopy (Cryo-EM) will work closely with the principal investigator (PI) in researching proteins of viruses like Ebola, Marburg and Lassa, using structural biology and cellular analysis to understand how the very few proteins encoded by these viruses achieve a tremendous array of functions throughout the virus life cycle. This role will have the primary responsibility for data collection and research using Cryo-EM with a dedicated 300 keV Titan Halo with a Falcon II detector.

• Develop and lead research projects involving the study of proteins of viruses using Cryo-EM.
• Oversee the operation of Cyro-EM for the lab, including developing and implementing training for all users of dedicated 300 keV Tital Halo with a dedicated Falcon II detector.
• Continuously elevate the level of understanding of Cryo-EM techniques in the lab.
• Maintain Cyro-EM equipment and scheduled maintenance.
• Propose new ideas for research methods.
• Identify methods to increase research and reduce costs.
• Develop and implement an evaluation process for tracking and monitoring use of the Cryo-EM.
• Provide documentation and makes technical presentations, as required.
• Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Perform other duties and tasks as required or requested.

Physical Requirements:

This position works in a laboratory environment. Further details of the physical requirements of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process.

Basic Qualifications:

• PhD or equivalent experience in structural biology field is required.
• 3-5 years of related experience using techniques in sample preparation and Cryo-EM.
• Experience teaching scientific techniques in Cryo-EM a plus.
• Proficiency in scientific principles and concepts, especially related to structural biology.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as in a research team environment.

Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience.
