Position Title Biostatistician
Position Summary:
  • Utilize software packages such as SPSS and MLwiN to perform bio-statistical analyse from clinical trials and laboratory studies in a manner which meets study/project objectives and guidelines.
  • Perform hands-on data analysis and management from clinical trials and laboratory studies focused on alcohol and drug use disorders.
  • Create and maintain databases, including creating and maintaining electronic databases for each study, labeling each variable, defining how created variables are constructed, supervision of data entry personnel, performing ongoing checking for data errors and omissions, and maintaining an electronic folder containing the syntax for each figure, table and statistic published in a given paper.
  • May develop/manipulate statistical software applications as appropriate for more effective data analysis and presentation.
  • Organize, interpret, summarize and present statistical data in a manner which is both clear and amenable to the principles of statistical inference.
  • May assign and/or supervise the work of lab personnel.
  • May assist or participate in the development of study or project manuscripts.
  • Perform other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as required or assigned.

Physical Requirements:

This position works in a laboratory or vivarium environment. Further details of the physical requirements of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree, preferably in Biostatistics, or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
  • Minimum of 2 year’s relevant professional experience in a research environment is required. Experience may be considered in lieu of required education if the applicant has the required skills.
  • Experience creating and maintaining detailed electronic databases for multiple studies, auditing for errors and omissions, and maintaining associated tables and statistics used for publication in papers resulting from the studies.
  • Demonstrated proficiency of SPSS and a thorough understanding of hierarchical mixed-effect models, general linear modeling and ANOVA.
  • Must possess effective statistical analysis skills as well as the ability to write, read, interpret/translate, organize and communicate highly technical and complex scientific data and reports.
  • Must possess the ability to construct, interpret and clearly communicate information and data in a variety of formats (e.g. written, oral or figures).
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency with MS Word, Excel (e.g. statistical graphing), PRISM, PowerPoint and in medical literature web searches.
  • Able to operate independently on site as well as within a collaborative work environment.
  • Experience with clinical trials analysis is preferred.
